ELGIN PUBLIC SCHOOLS
RULES AND EXPECTATIONS FOR USE OF GYM FACILITY
The Elgin Public School gym facility is used for the primary purpose of educating students who attend Elgin Public Schools. Elgin Public Schools understands that the community often uses the gym and/or gym facility, including locker rooms/restrooms and kitchen and lunchroom areas along with the gym and bleachers, for various activities in including, but not limited to, non-school related adult and youth athletics that include adult and youth basketball and volleyball tournaments, bazaars, community bloodmobiles, meetings, fairs and other various activities involving community members. For safety and liability of both the students attending Elgin Public Schools and those attending or participating in non-school related activities, it is important that the following rules and expectations are understood and followed.
- Elgin Public Schools is not responsible for lost or stolen items that may result during non-school related activities.
- Elgin Public Schools is not responsible for injury to a person resulting from an accident while participating in a non-school related activity.
- Anyone using the facility is responsible for making sure that equipment used is not damaged in any way. Should damages occur to equipment or facilities, the participating parties understand that they are responsible for replacing or fixing the damaged equipment.
- All equipment used must be approved ahead of time. Those using the facilities must obtain permission from school administration before using equipment from storerooms or offices.
- Upon completion of activities, the facility must be cleaned and arranged as to appear the way it was at the beginning of use.
- Upon completion of activities, the facilities must be locked down completely with the organizing person checking to make sure all lights are off; all equipment is placed in correct storage, and ALL EXTERIOR DOORS ARE LOCKED (you must check them from the outside to make sure they have closed and latched tight). The person in charge of the activity should be the last person to leave the facility and make sure that the building is secure.
- At the completion of use of the facility, all keys are to be returned to the high school central office to be checked in. If you are participating in a league or other activity where you may use the gym over an extended period of time, you may request to have a key checked out with the understanding that you would hold the key for the length of time needed to complete the activity or league season. However, you will be expected to check the key back in to the central office at the completion of the season or completion of an activity.
- All participants must wear only gym shoes when on the gym floor. No shoes that are worn outside will be permitted. The gym floor has recently been re-finished and is a costly process. We ask that you make every effort to participate in gym floor appropriate shoes. In the event that the activity does not allow for gym shoes (bazaars, meetings, fairs, etc.) the school expects that arrangements be made to have gym floor protective tarps be placed on the floor ahead of time.
- All children must be supervised. If a parent is participating in a game or activity, it is expected that children be in the room of the activity and not out of sight. (i.e. If a parent is playing a basketball game, children must not be in the commons area by glass trophy case, in locker rooms, in weight room, on stage or wrestling mats, hallways, etc.)
***All participating parties will follow the above list of expectations. Elgin Public Schools gladly allows the use of its gym facility. However, individuals or groups who demonstrate disregard of the expectations for gym facility use may lose the privilege of such use.
