The Eagle Mural

The Art students and I have been busy completing a mural for the football field, concession stand in time for State Playoffs. Brandy Suhr brought in a design of an eagle football player she had found on the Internet that we worked from. Modifications to the eagle included our school colors, adding an Elgin jersey and giving him talons instead of fingers along with other details. We eliminated the word “eagles” from behind the eagle and the rainbow lightning. Three 4’x7’ masonite panels were painted black for the design. The design was made into a transparency and a projector was used to enlarge the design onto a 4’x7’ masonite panel with chalk.
In addition to the eagle, a sign was created in Printshop with a football being thrown through the words “Elgin Football”. This was blown up to cover two of the masonite panels making the final design 12’ long by 7’ high. I painted the eagle with many suggestions from the students while the Art students painted the “Elgin Football” part of the mural. After a frantic week of working, the mural was completed and ready to hang at the field for everyone to enjoy.
Students helping to complete the mural were; Becki Schindler, Jenna Schindler, Allie Schiltmeyer, Shane Voborny, Brandy Suhr, Tyler Johnson and Teri Kittelson.
