MARCHING EAGLES IN LIONS CLUB PARADE

by Deb Jones

October 01, 2008

The Elgin Marching Eagles traveled to Norfolk for the Lions Club parade on Saturday, September 27th.  The parade began at 10:00 am and is the same route and format as the annual Lavitsef parade has been each year.  The crowds seemed to be about the same size and enthusiastic when bands went by.  The gentleman lining us up told Mrs. Jones there would only be 23 bands marching from Class AA to Class D schools.

There were 7 bands in the D division this year:  Elgin Public, Osceola, Orchard, Osmond, West Boyd/Spencer, Wausa and Coleridge.  Osmond has an outstanding marching band program and has been the band to try to beat for many years in Class C and since moving down to Class D just last year.  Osmond won out this year picking up first place with Coleridge coming in second.  Elgin Public did a wonderful job performing and the crowd commented that the band sounded great.  I don’t know what place we received, but from the results sent we were somewhere between third and fifth place. The results don’t tell all of the places, they list the total points scored for the top and bottom bands.   I was very proud of the students’ efforts.  Congratulations band!!!

Thank you Mr. Fisher for taking all the great photos of the parade.  Also a big thanks to Mrs. Heithoff for putting the slide show together.
