2010 Turkeys

Kindergarten, First and Second Grades

by Rita Heithoff

November 10, 2009

The Kindergarten, First and Second Grades are busy working on turkeys in Art class.  They looked at photos of turkeys from the Internet where we found out the hangee, downee, thingee (technical art terms:) on their beak is called a "snood".  Each student was given a handout that showed the steps for drawing a turkey.

They spent a couple of class periods sketching their turkeys before drawing them on paper with a brown crayon.  The next step is painting over the crayon with watercolor paint.  Since crayons are made of wax, and water and wax do not mix, the crayon resists the watercolor and their drawing shows through the paint.
