On Thursday September 18th , students of Elgin Public Schools gathered around the American flag to take time to honor the United States Constitution. This was an opportunity for students to reflect on the document that has guided the United States for the last 220 years.
The ceremony began with a reading by members of the 11th grade American Government class. They read a choral reading by Lorainne Griffith concerning the Preamble to the Constitution. Mr. Jones then spoke on the need for recognizing the importance of the constitution. To conclude the ceremony, the Pledge of Allegiance was recited by the entire student body.
We feel it is important to take time to develop awareness for the important documents that have served our country and to develop a greater appreciation for them.
