Fourth grade share a Special Birthday!
Wednesday, September 30, the fourth grade class, Mrs. Bode, and Ms.
Siems, walked to Marjorie Beason's house to help her celebrate her
90th birthday.
For many years Marjorie was a friend the fourth grade class visited
as part of their guidance program. We made a card and had many of
the students that had visited over the years sign it.
We sang Happy Birthday and then students asked Marjorie about
school when she was young. We learned that she walked a mile and a
half every day to a country school for her elementary education,
all grades were in the same room, but there was no kindergarten.
She told us that if you were kind of sneaky you could listen in on
other grades lessons! School started at 9:00 a.m. and ended at 4:00
p.m. Students had to bring their own lunch. If you sat far from the
wood burning stove you were pretty cold in the winter! For her high
school education, Marjorie cam to the BIG Public School in
Elgin.
Students also got to see Marjorie's owl collection and COOL pool
table during their visit. I don't think they'd ever seen so many
kinds of owls before.
We had some cake and thanked Marjorie for letting us celebrate her
birthday with her. We are planning on celebrating again with her in
another 10 years!
