Congratulations to the speech team on an outstanding performance at district speech yesterday. As a team they placed fourth out of nine teams. Oid placed 2nd and will be representing the district at state next week. Jennifer Rhoads placed 3rd in poetry and also qualified for state. Brieann Grosserode placed 4th in humorous prose, and Jessica Heithoff placed 4th in serious prose. Both Jess and Brie missed qualifying for state by one place. Cortny Meis and Christi Getzfred placed 5th in duet. All received superior ratings. Breanna Bode received an Excellent in poetry, Ashley Bode received an Excellent in entertainment speaking, and Justin Kallhoff received an excellent in serious prose.
Congratulations on a job well done, everybody!
Speech Night, which is our public performance, will be held Monday night at 6:30 in the gym. Everyone is welcome to come and watch the speech kids at work! You are sure to be thoroughly entertained.
State speech will be next Friday in Kearney. We will be leaving sometime Thursday afternoon and will return Friday evening. Non qualifiers may attend but will be responsible for paying for your own room and board. Please let Mrs. Shoe know by the end of the day whether or not you plan to attend. Details will be given early next week.
Pi-Day (3/14) will be celebrated next Monday the 15th. To show your math spirit and honor Albert Einstein (his birthday) all 7-12th graders are encouraged to dress up as a nerd or Albert Einstein on Monday. Activities will take place during math classes all day. Winners of the best costumes and other winners will receive Elgin Bucks!!

As the snow melts we are beginning to see a problem with gum. Please make sure gum ends up in the trash cans rather than the sidewalk, streets, grass, or school floors. Hopefully the problem will improve so a no-gum policy will not have to be enforced.

Congratulations to the speech team on some recent outstanding performances. On Saturday the whole team placed sixth at the Pope John Invite. Jennifer Rhoads earned a 6th place medal in poetry, and the OID team of Justin Kallhoff, Brieann Grosserode, Sebastian Janssen, A.J. Braband, and Michelle Bauer placed third. Everyone else had terrific performances and received many superior and excellent ratings.
At the conference speech meet yesterday the OID team earned the runners-up medals, placing 2nd out of 19 teams. Individuals again earned many excellents and superiors.
Great job, everybody! Good luck at districts next Wednesday!
Great job! For the month of February the school collected 3,000 pounds of recyclable paper products in the GreenFiber recycling bin! That averages to over 107 pounds per day! Remember to flatten all boxes and keep recycling!
